FSM Independence Day

Happy Independence Day! On November 3rd, 2020 the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) celebrated 34 years of Independence. Let’s commemorate this important day with our fellow Federated States of Micronesia citizens. It is the day we gain our independence and became a sovereign Nation by it’s own actions.

After the World War II, the FSM islands became part of the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands under the control of the United States of America. On November 3rd, 1986, the FSM became independent from the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands with the entry into the Compact of Free Association with the United States. Under the first Compact of Free Association, the Federated States of Micronesia was given 15 years of substantial development aid from the United States. In 2004, the Amendment Compact was established where an additional 20 years of financial assistance were given to the FSM by the US which still continues to this day.
